Mangunjaya Psychiatric Hospital was established in 1918 under the name Doorganghuis Voor Krankzinnigen, and was initially led by Dr. Engelhard. Later, leadership passed to several Indonesian doctors, including Dr. Semeru, Dr. Wignyobroto, and Dr. RM. Soejarwadi. Over the years, the building underwent several functional changes. It once served as the office for the Arseto Football Club, ORARI (Indonesian Amateur Radio Organization), and the Department of Population and Civil Registry of Surakarta City. Today, the former hospital building has been repurposed as the office of the UPT Museum under the Department of Culture and Tourism of Surakarta.
