Al Fatih Mosque was established in 1312 AH (1891 AD), as inscribed in Arabic numerals above the mosque's main entrance. It was built by Kanjeng Raden Adipati Sosrodiningrat IV, who served as Pepatih Dalem (Chief Minister), under the order of Pakubuwono IX, the King of Surakarta.
According to local tradition, the mosque was constructed as part of the marriage dowry from Pakubuwono IX to a royal princess who later became one of his wives. Initially, the mosque was managed by the Surakarta Palace (Keraton Surakarta), but after Indonesia’s independence, its management was transferred to the Department of Religious Affairs.
Over time, Al Fatih Mosque has undergone several phases of development to meet the needs of its worshippers:
Construction of the Pawestren and Storage Room
The Pawestren (derived from the word pawestri, meaning "woman") is a special prayer area for female worshippers.
On the southern side of the main prayer hall, a storage room was built with a similar size and design as the Pawestren.
Expansion of the Front Building (1992)
Due to the growing number of worshippers, a two-story extension was added to the front of the mosque.
Facility Improvements (2019)
Paving blocks were installed in the mosque courtyard, and separate restrooms for men and women were constructed.
