Puri Baron was built in 1908. The name "Baron" comes from Baron Van Hougendoorf, a Dutch official who played a key role in the establishment of the Kasunanan Surakarta Palace. The building features Indies-style architecture, which was adapted to suit the tropical climate of Indonesia.

This building also served as a silent witness to the Ceasefire Negotiation, a truce meeting between the Dutch—represented by Colonel Van Ohl—and the Indonesian forces led by Lieutenant Colonel Slamet Riyadi. This took place during the four-day battle in Solo following the second Dutch military aggression.

Puri Baron is also known as the Pertani Office, as in 1978, it was repurposed to serve as the office of PT Pertani, a company that handles agricultural administration.
