Rumah Budaya Kratonan: A History-Driven Creative Hub in the Heart of Solo

Solo, Desember 1, 2025 – Rumah Budaya Kratonan (RBK) serves as a prominent cultural hub, offering visitors a unique and intimate way to explore the city of Solo. Located at Jl. Manduro No. 6, Kratonan, Serengan, the venue provides a warm and welcoming space dedicated to history, art, and community engagement.

Established in 2016 by Krisnina Maharani Akbar Tandjung and managed by the Yayasan Warna Warni Indonesia (YWWI), RBK has blossomed into a creative center that empowers the local community through cultural knowledge. Its vision is powerful yet straightforward: to transform history and culture into a vibrant, enjoyable, and relevant learning experience for the contemporary generation.

A central attraction is the Surakarta History Gallery, which chronicles the city's evolution across seven thematic rooms. Visitors are invited to trace interconnected historical events throughout various eras, supported by knowledgeable guides who detail each exhibit. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 09:00 to 16:00 WIB, featuring affordable ticket prices for both students and general visitors.

RBK also features a Reading Room/Mini Library boasting a collection of approximately 1,200 books, all accessible free of charge. This peaceful area, shaded by lush trees, has become a favorite spot for students, researchers, and tourists seeking a calm atmosphere.

Kantin Laras, situated on-site, offers traditional Javanese fare, including specialties like Lodeh Jawa, Ayam Kratonan, and Nasi Jemblung. Guests can enjoy these dishes in a comfortable, homey setting.

To further solidify its role as a creative hub, RBK hosts a variety of art classes and community programs, such as Traditional Dance, Karawitan (Javanese Gamelan), Yoga, Taekwondo, Children’s Javanese Language, and English for Kids, each scheduled on designated days. Additionally, RBK runs workshops in crafts like Batik, Wayang Beber (Scroll Puppet), Janur Weaving, and Aksara Writing, all available at competitive prices.

Moreover, Rumah Budaya Kratonan provides City Tour services, including village walks, the Heritage on Wheels program, and the distinctive Sound of River experience. These packages are designed to offer visitors a closer, more personalized view of Solo.

For event organizers, RBK offers several rental spaces, including the Bale Panggung (Stage Pavilion), the garden courtyard, and the Kantin Laras area. These venues are perfect for reunions, meetings, weddings, and halal bihalal gatherings, all imbued with an authentic Javanese cultural ambiance.

With its inclusive and educational approach to culture, Rumah Budaya Kratonan stands as one of Solo's essential destinations. It functions not just as a learning space, but as a nurturing environment where communities preserve and celebrate local heritage.
